Silver Butterfly Wings is my story. It’s a story of transformation, of the many paths and decisions I faced while going through the process of grief.
My husband had died and I was utterly shattered; could not imagine a life without him. Then signs from the other side appeared, filling me with hope: flickering lights, hawks flying overhead, our song on the radio, a butterfly’s silvery wings, a hot spot on his side of the bed.
At first I was sceptical. How could my dearly departed be sending signs and messages from across the veil? Over time I learned to trust these signs, these gifts from Spirit. There was a reason I was still here. I was meant to go on, to live my life with passion. I was to figure out who I was becoming in this totally different world and trust that life was taking me where I was meant to be.
In short, I was to transform - like a butterfly.

The subject of how to communicate after physical death with those you have left behind has been the subject of many conversations. Oddly enough, one of the most quoted methods is via butterflies, perhaps because their fragile, almost ethereal beauty seems to typify spirit in its purest form. In this new book the author, Wendy Willow, an intuitive palm reader, numerologist, and speaker describes her journey following the death of her much-loved husband. She describes the absolute grief and desolation she felt until she gradually started to notice what was occurring around her. She began to notice little things that gave her hope that her husband was communicating with her from the ‘other side’. Things like flickering lights, or hawks flying overhead, their favourite song on the radio and especially the silvery wings of a butterfly. Of course, this could be put down to coincidence, or synchronicity, or some other effect caused by her overwhelming grief, but it soon became clear that these were no chance events but were structured and deliberate. The book also functions as a source of comfort for the bereaved because it is clear that we can communicate with those we have loved and lost, and love can be eternal. Highly recommended. Wendy’s journey was heartbreaking. Trying to come to terms with the death of a loved one is never easy. I am a believer in an afterlife. And I was so touched by Wendy’s beautiful writing and especially how she took comfort in the small signs that came to her from the other side. I know the concept of spiritualism and the possibility of an after life isn’t for everyone. However this true story cannot fail to touch the heart of even the most sceptical amongst us. Passion - Raw Emotion - Ideas to Challenge you Wendy clearly has a strong voice and style of writing which she uses beautifully in Silver Butterfly Wings. Her words are filled with passion and raw emotion as she paints a picture that not only draws you into her story but immerses you into her life, so you become part of the journey alongside her and not an outsider. Grief is something that touches us all at one time or another, sometimes it’s a small part of our world and sometimes it becomes all-encompassing, and the grief is all we can see, feel, and hear. What I love about this book from Wendy is that she openly shows us her grief but also her joy in the small moments as she navigated her changed life. Although I read frequently with tears in my eyes, I didn’t come away feeling sad or depressed, I came away feeling hopeful. I was left feeling inquisitive; wondering what small nuances and signs from the universe I could already be missing on a day-to-day basis as I rush through life moving from one event to another. What Wendy shares through her book is more profound than grief alone, she shows us that if we are willing to stop, to truly stop, and to look and listen to our surroundings then we can find joy and wonder and hints from the universe to guide us on our path. I appreciated having been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of Wendy Willow's account of the death of her husband and how she found comfort during her grief from many small occurrences. In many other ways, I found Wendy and David's story paralleled the one my husband and I experienced during my husband's illness and eventual death. My husband and David both had long declines that each of them knew had only one outcome. Wendy's story has given me the hope that I will eventually work through my grief. I think anyone who reads it will find something of comfort to help with the roller-coaster of emotions a widow experiences. Some of these are common to anyone who has lost a beloved family member however others are unique to women who suddenly find themselves facing life alone. Running at a solid 400 pages, Silver Butterfly Wings is one of those books that you inquiringly pick up at the store, glance through, but still decide to start from the beginning and then, out of nowhere, you are four hours in, have unknowingly cried way more than you knew, but have now also mentally opened up a hopeful shaft of light within you that an after-life connection with your own departed loved one could also now be searched for. But, as Wendy did, I was never ready to let to go of everyone. So, this was one that had me in tears most of the time. But, I would do it all again, to learn and no what-ifs.
