I have been on the path to self-love for many years now but seldom have I come across a book whose voice touches me like Ani Richardson’s in Love or Diet. Perhaps it’s because Ani walks her talk and when she speaks you can feel her right beside you. Perhaps it’s because she has risen from the ashes but remembers where she came from, or perhaps, it’s because her heart is so unconditional that you fall into it gratefully. Whatever the reason, this book is like having your BFF, your guardian angel and a box of Kleenex by your side. We all act out our unhealthy relationship with ourselves in a myriad of ways. It doesn’t matter what your poison is, what matters is that you stop hating yourself and start loving yourself, no matter what. In other words, if you must eat that box of chocolates, go ahead, but don’t punish yourself for it. Ani speaks first-hand to the insidious complexities of using food to hide, numb, stuff and hurt ourselves, and with ‘fierce wisdom and enduring compassion’ (her words) she helps us to find the way out through self-love.
