Although short, Let's Talk About Elements and The Pagan Wheel is the packed with information. Sissaidh Ceanadach takes us first through each of the elements, sharing their properties and significance for Britain and Europe but also explaining the differences for anyone in the Southern Hemisphere. She then moves on to the wheel of the year through the Wiccan Sabbats or festivals of Samhain, Midwinter and Yule, Imbolc, Ostra or Spring Equinox, Beltane, Midsummer, Lughnasadh and finally Autumn Equinox. For each of the Sabbats we are given background information into the meaning of them for Pagans and a short story that depicts the meaning in a clear and easily understood way. Each part finishes with questions that lead to finding out further information not only about the festival from a Pagan perspective but also how others, including your own family celebrate. Older children growing up in a Pagan household who would like to understand more, or others who feel drawn to learn about the Wheel of the Year, would enjoy reading and researching for themselves. For Pagan parents keen to develop their children's understanding this is a delightful little book to share and which would easily generate questions and conversation. ~ Yvonne, Amazon 5 star
Let’s Talk About Elements and the Wheel of the Year In short: I like it. The book is very clear and easy to understand and is therefore an easy read for young and old. The book triggers the mind because it is a good combination, of stories, explanation and questions. These qualities make the book very useful as schoolbook or something similar and is it perfect for the age range 7 - 11. Parents, teachers, etc, can use it while they are helping the children if the need should arise, but I am sure that most children will be able to manage on their own. I think that most adults will like it too, even though it is written for children. ~ Dennis Hazenbroek, A Druids Blog
Another Brilliant piece by the craftful pen of Siusaidh. I have enjoyed the way she offers suggestions about what the elements might mean, through natural representations that are easy to translate even to the other side of the planet. The strong use of colour and imagery has captured our imaginations as adults, along with our childrens imaginations, to explore the elements. I love the language that is used in this book, which resonantes well with my 4 and 3 year old, and just brings smiles and laughs to my baby. We like the active imagery that guides us through the Wheel of the Year, imbedded in the Elemental meaning of these movements, but also in the Mythologies and Lore of the British Isles, which also however, translate to other cultures easily through Elemental imagery. We also noticed the very 'tactile' language that is used to appeal to little people who think through feeling physically as this spoke deeply to our children. Our children loved the Seasonal stories and how we could immerse ourselves in each one as the Season unfolded. For our little people, who have grown up immersed in a modern commercial and Christian-influenced world - but deeply imbedded in our Pagan ways - this book has been a delight and a gift. We look forward to reading it again and again, as the Wheel continues to turn. This is also a great resource for sharing with child education places, to broaden understandings of the many ways that the People of this Earth experience and celebrate Life. ~ Kirsti Chapman, NZ
Another wonderful little book in the 'Let's Talk' series by Siusaidh Ceanadach. This time Siusaidh takes a look at how the four elements and directions link into the Pagan Wheel of the Year. This fabulous book includes a story for each celebration along with details on how to celebration and lots of interesting information to send children out searching and exploring to aid them in learning for themselves. Although these books are aimed at children they are also really interesting for grown ups too. The stories for each Sabbat are beautifully written with enchanting characters and engaging story lines, all with the goal of helping children to understand about each celebration, which they do wonderfully. At the end of each section are some questions and challenges set for children to take on, all with the aim again of helping them explore and understand in a fun way. Definite must have for pagans with children that are eager to learn. ~ Rachel Patterson, http://kitchenwitchuk.blogspot.co.uk
