Jerry Barnett

Jerry Barnett

Jerry Barnett is a technologist with Internet experience going back to the 1980s, as well as a political activist over many years. His technological and political experience eventually brought him into the world of sexual freedom and free speech activism. Jerry has several years of writing on the subjects of sex and censorship, as well as on race and other subjects.

Jerry's political activism began in the late-1970s when he became involved with Rock Against Racism and the Anti-Nazi League. He went on to become active in a wide variety of progressive causes. He comes from a long background of family activism, and his grandfather was present at the Battle of Cable Street in 1936. Over the past few years, he has become increasingly concerned over a rise in anti-intellectualism and conservatism on the political left, and has written frequently on this subject. As a veteran anti-fascism campaigner, he notes the rise of fascist methods and attitudes on the left, once a bulwark against fascism, with deep concern.

Jerry's direct involvement with online adult entertainment led him, around a decade ago, into involvement with Britain's unaccountable, Kafkaesque censorship state. He became so concerned over the apparently unnoticed rise in state censorship that, in 2013, he founded the Sex & Censorship campaign and blog in order to document and counter the new rise in authoritarianism. He is a widely respected speaker and expert in the field of censorship and free expression, and is frequently called on to participate in debates and media interviews.
