Bojana Kunst is philosopher, dance and theatre theoretician, dramatist and teacher. She works as a professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Science at Justus – Liebig University Giessen. She is living in Frankfurt, Germany.
Her primary research and teaching interests are contemporary dance and performance with the special focus on the late 20th century and 21st century. She also teaches history of performance, media arts, philosophy and political theory. She dedicated her research and teaching especially to philosophy and theory of the body and movement, contemporary performance, new media art, theoretical approaches to choreography and dramaturgy, contemporary visual art and political theories of performance. She is strongly interested in developing theory and reflection of contemporary practice from interdisciplinary and gender perspective. In the last years she is interested especially in the reflection of broader aesthetic, cultural and social processes in choreography and performance and strong connections between theory and practical work. She published over 250 articles in various international publications.
1. Academic Development
She graduated in 1994 from Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Humanities
She began to work as young researcher in the year 1996 at the Faculty of Humanities, Department of Philosophy - Aesthetics
Completed Master Degree at the University of Ljubljana. The Problem of the Body in Theatre, Impossible Body, Promotor: prof. Dr. Lev Kreft
From 1999 she worked as one of the foundational members of Maska, independent organisation for publishing, production, education and research
She received her Ph.D. from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Humanities, Department for Philosophy. The title of the thesis: Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Between Organic and Technological, Aesthetics of the Body and the Art of Postmodernism. Promotor: Prof. Dr. Lev Kreft
She began to work as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty for Humanities
Post-doctoral research at the University of Antwerpen, with prof. Dr. Luk van den Dries
Habilitation: She received her habilitation at University of Primorska, where she is working as an Assistant professor for Philosophy of Visual Culture
She began to work as an assistant professor at the University of Primorska where she is still teaching. From 2003 she is teaching the course on philosophy of the body and performance in the postgraduate course Philosophy of Visual Culture and supervising postgraduate students (MA and Ph.D. programme)
2004 - 2009
She worked as researcher at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts
She received her second habilitation at the University of Primorska
She worked as visiting professor at the University of Hamburg, Department for Human Movement and Performance Studies Hamburg. She received DAAD visiting professorship grant for 2 years
From 2012 she is a full professor for Dance and Performance at the Institute for Applied Theatre Science at Justus-Liebig University Giessen.

Dramaturgies, artistic collaborations, productions
For number of years she is working as a dramaturge and collaborating with different performance artists, choreographers, new media artists and visual artists (among them Hooman Sharifi, Matjaž Farič, Nataša Kos, Paz Rojo, Ivana Muller, Igor Štromajer, Mare Bulc, Diego De Brea, Apolonija Šušteršič, Davide Grassi. Bojan Jablanovec). She is involved in different artistic productions, with the special interest for research, inter-medial and experimental processes of performance work. She is developing new platforms for practical artistic work, which would be open to new methodologies of work and experimental approaches. She also works as an artistic advisor and mentor for young performance artists in various European contexts.
