Alex Wade is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Education at Birmingham City University, UK. He has published widely on French social theory, space and time in videogames and the histories of videogames. He has also co-edited a collection of articles on national notions of videogame history for Cogent Open Access. His work into videogame histories is one of the few attempts to synthesise culture with games and show how both give rise and affect one another. He has previously published work on Pac-Man's relationship to greater economic and cultural considerations which has been widely cited in popular media. Although not one for nostalgia, he has been playing videogames for 35 years and believes that they represent the pre-eminent media and art-form of the 21st century and in this are clearly in need of sustained critical and cultural analysis.
