Liz MacRae Shaw

Liz Macrae Shaw has always been fascinated by the stories we tell about our past, the flows and eddies that shape us.This interest began with hearing her grandparents' tales about the Highlands of Scotland. She took a History degree at Oxford University and afterwards lectured in the subject in a Further Education College. The nineteenth century in particular became a passion because of the turbulent events that swept through people's lives at that time. She researched the life of the Duke of Wellington as a specialist subject after reaching the semi-final of Mastermind. A career change led her to qualify as a psychotherapist. This role involved listening to individual histories and personal hopes, fears and motivations.Since returning to her roots on the Isle of Skye these different currents have merged together in her writing She lives with her husband and two standard poodles while the rest of her family are in North Wales, another Celtic stronghold. She finds inspiration for her historical fiction from Highland culture, family history and the stark but beautiful landscape of the island..
