Malcolm David Brown

Malcolm David Brown is a recovering academic turned interspiritual writer who has always had an urge to find things out and find connections between them. He is fascinated by religious diversity and intrigued at the capacity of spiritual traditions for mutual enrichment and human emancipation. With a PhD in the sociology of Islam, he has worked at universities in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Buddhist communities along the Thai-Burma border, and published papers on the sociology of religion, development studies, social enterprise, and other topics. He has in-depth lived experience of different strands of Christianity and Buddhism, and is a practicing Quaker in the ‘liberal’ unprogrammed tradition who is often regarded as the resident ‘expert’ on world religions. He lives near Pisa in Italy.
