Paganism & neo-paganism, Poetry
Poetry talks to the heart as well as the head. It can move us, make us think and guide us. This book explores how poetry can help develop a Pathworking through exploring wisdom hidden in plain view. It is a look at creative processes, inspirations, how nature and the Divine move us – and how to apply this on a personal level to Pagan Pathworking.

If you have felt that the Gods and Goddesses of this land are standing close by but just out of sight then this book is for you. If you love the poetry of WB Yeats, Fiona MacLeod and Seumas O'Sullivan then this book is for you. If you have never experienced the magic of the poetry written by WB Yeats, Fiona MacLeod or Seumas O'Sullivan then this book is certainly for you. Fiona Tinker uses her vast knowledge and indisputable intelligence to take the reader on an enlightening journey, opening up the realms of her chosen poets in a way never before experienced. Fiona's style is deliberately easy to read. Her skills as a teacher allow her to share her passion in a way that is accessible to all readers. I feel as though, until now, I have been reading poetry with my eyes closed. Fiona Tinker has not only opened my eyes but my heart and soul too. For years I have struggled in connecting with the Gods and Goddesses of this land. I have tried the elaborate circle casting, performed protracted rituals and read the plethora of pagan DIY manuals. Fiona Tinkers book has shown me the way to make strong, meaningful connections. This book feels as though it comes from somewhere deep in time and place. There is a great strength to this book. It has had a profound effect on me. Sadly I don't share Fiona Tinker's craft as a word smith to allow me to give you a true sense of that impact. All I can say is "Thank you Fiona x" and "READ THIS BOOK!". ~ Witchway?, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pagan-Portals-Pathworking-exploring-understanding/dp/1780992858/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360937800&sr=8-1
5.0 out of 5 stars Full of wisdom and insight, 3 Jan 2013 By S P Roberts - See all my reviews This review is from: Pagan Portals - Pathworking through Poetry: Pagan Pathworking through poetry: exploring, knowing, understanding and dancing with the wisdom the bards hid in plain view. (Kindle Edition) I've recently been drawn to writing my own poetry, which I've never really been interested and so when I came across "Pathworthing Through Poetry" by Fiona Tinker I took it as a sign that I was meant to read it. The book is packed with information, symbolism and mythology which allows the reader to peek beneath the surface and take a glimpse at the hidden meanings that lay beneath. Armed with this knowledge the reader is given examples of how to use the poems in the book to create pathworkings of their own, with some great results. I'm a lover of guided meditations and pathworkings myself but I would never have thought to use poetry as my framework ... until now. Most Helpful Customer Reviews 5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely stimulating read - useful idea & lots information 13 Dec 2012 By Ashbeth Format:Paperback Fiona Tinker writes a very personable book. Although this book has structure and order and is packed with information, it feels like having a good chat with a very knowledgable lady about interesting ideas. Rather than try to cast her net too wide she keeps the examples to a few poems focussed on a couple of specific characters. As she explores in the book the poems meaning in this world, and the characters interactions in other worlds, you start to get a sense of how much more there is to explore in a pathworking. Worlds, just as soon as you put down the book and open your mind. The author doesn't waste time describing what 1001 other pagan "how to..." guides are more than happy to dictate to you, the casting of circles and the like, that is taken as read and left to the reader to sort out what they are doing, what their tradition or practice suggests. This book is all about the journey of exploration and learning that can be found on a good focussed pathworking and having quality poetry as the gateway into that journey. Fiona's knowledge of both poems and celtic mythology is strong (and this comes from someone who lives with a professional storyteller who has spent over 20 years studying mythologies of norther europe). I loved the way she is able to heap information about the mythologies, the characters and back stories into the text. This is delivered elegantly and smoothly, without it once departing from the sense of a relaxed conversation. At no point was there any sense of her showing this off or overloading, it was all palatably presented in the way to best stimulate your own knowledge and ideas. This is not a text book nor an instructional, it is not a poetry book, or a book of literary criticism - what it is is something greater than all of these, and yet essentially combining elements of all, smoothly and with a clear purpose. An enjoyable read, filled with useful stimulating ideas and passages, built around a wonderfully sound concept, which seems so obviously of great value I wonder the book wasn't already in existence. It seems like poetry as a basis for pathworking, and pathworking to better understand and engage with poetry should be a normal practice, a traditional one we have been at for years, something referred to in school even as one of the most powerful ways to interpret poetry; and yet I would bet that this will be a new concept to many, even those who already practice one part or the other. As well as a lovely addition to your own shelves it would make a great gift for anyone who has an interest in either poetry, pathworkings (narrative based meditations) or paganism. Basically - Buy it - you won't be disappointed. :) Comment | Was this review helpful to you? › See the customer review http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pagan-Portals-Pathworking-exploring-understanding/dp/1780992858/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355417728&sr=8-1 13.12.12 ~ Ashbeth, Amazon.co.uk
Pathworking through poetry by Fiona Tinker. Through selected renowned poets Fiona digs deeply between the lines and into the hidden meanings to highlight lore that has been all but forgotten in our busy modern age. With these insights can we find the lost magic of the past and walk with more care upon our own paths that our elders took in more spiritually vibrant times. This is a most valuable addition to any pagans’ most treasured and well-thumbed books. I sincerely hope there is more to come, nay a tome of insights from this talented lady. Alex Rigg. This exquisite little book is both inspired, and thoroughly inspiring. Best suited to those with an interest in both the bardic path and meditation work, it delivers a great deal in its pages. Author Fiona Tinker works with a number of poems, exploring their imagery and meaning deeply. This in itself is fascinating for the myths and folklore brought into the mix, and also offers insight into how to go deeply into poetry. If you’ve forgotten the analysis of school, or hated it, this is a good re-encountering, full of soul and awen. A well written poem is a densely packed thing full of food for contemplation, and taking time to consider nuances, references and just where it takes you is all good work for the bard. In learning how to think about poetry, we also learn to be more adept creators of it. Fiona Tinker takes the process a step further, exploring how the poem can be utilised for pathworking – overcoming the big problem of keeping track that faces the solitary worker. In theory, any resonant poem could be used in the same way, so the reader can not only explore the poems included, but take the same practice to other works that move them. From the above you might expect the poems to be ancient. They aren’t. This is an important point, because it is the quality of inspiration that matters, and the way in which inspiration opens a door for us, not the age of the piece. If you are moved, then you have something to work with. It’s beautifully written, non-dogmatic, accessible and intelligent – the perfect balance. If this is your path then this is a book that will help you considerably on the journey. Very much recommended. ~ Nimue Brown , The Druid Network
Poetry Between the Worlds March 20, 2013 An excellent and practical guide to Celtic pathwork, ie meditation and interaction with the Fey. Yeats is one of my favorite poets. Use of his poems in this volume is a big plus for me. I have always believed that we are meant to speak directly with the spirits. Fiona Tinker does too. She blends literature and spirituality as they are meant to be. I highly recommend this book and will use it in my classes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1780992858/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p14_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1QG8BE2QJ8CZ6G1F69DH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846 accessed March 21st, 2013. ~ Anemone, Amazon.com
