Pagan Portals - Herbs of the Sun, Moon and Planets combines herbalism with astrology and explains how the ancient herbalists like Culpeper assigned specific herbs to planetary rulers. Various characteristics were used to decide what planet ruled particular herbs. Mars is the God of War and herbs that have this planet as their ruler display aggressive properties and appearance, such as thorns or red berries or sap. Dragon trees have red resin known as Dragon's Blood.
The book is divided into sections for each group of herbs. So there are seven divisions for herbs of the Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn, each containing seven herbs.
Herbs of the Sun, Moon and Planets will be essential reading for herbalists and gardeners, and will also appeal to those with a general interest in the occult and astrology.

The spirit here might at first seem to be Sun Ra via Captain Beefheart or Dr William Price channelling Iolo Morganwg but read and you’ll find a work of accessible erudition, a herbalist ground breaker of considerable scope. Steve Andrews, poet, mystic, and author of distinction rides again. ~ Peter Finch
Another fascinating piece of writing by Steven Andrews, Herbs of the Sun, Moon and Planets contains a wealth of material which will be of interest, not only to naturalists and astrologers, but to students of folklore, of the history of ideas, and the general public too. Easy to read, cram-packed with information and an insight into the minds of our naturalist forefathers, every paragraph offers a new thought to ponder on. Buy this book. You won’t be disappointed. ~ C. J. Stone
"Steve has put together a useful little reference book for some of the wonderful planetary herbs and plants with history, myths and medicinal uses, an interesting read." ~ Rachel Patterson
Steve's first book 'Herbs of the Northern Shaman' has been an invaluable companion for the 'Practical Pagan Magickal Herb' classes I offer in my adopted home of Ibiza, Spain. As a practising White Witch, Firewalker and Faery Goddess, I was delighted to hear that Steve is now offering a second volume, and this too, is chock full of information and herb lore. So perfect for our Elemental ceremonies here on the magickal Isle of Tanit. Thank you Steve! Blessed Be!" ~ Carli Susu, White Witch ~ Carli SuSu
