Hidden Goddess, The
Uncover the goddesses buried within the Bible.
The Hidden Goddess delves into the Bible to uncover the goddesses that have been buried within it. As well as discussing familiar figures such as Eve and Mary, the book also features Asherah, Sophia, Lilith, and others, exploring their histories, their roles in early Judaic Christian belief and their subsequent suppression.
'...a readable and accessible antidote to the stereotype that the divine feminine is absent in the biblical traditions. A great resource for women and men seeking the Goddess in unlikely places.

5 out of 5 stars: ......I’m not sure how to describe the book without gushing too much, but it opened my eyes to a world under the one I had learned about growing up and throughout my time with the church. The goddess is as old as time, and to follow her progress, changes, ups and downs, and how she continues to change and adapt to life even now in the 21st century, was a pleasure. Laurie takes you by the hand and skilfully leads you on the journey through religious peace, war, life and death in thousands of years, explaining what could be dry facts, with flare and passion that catch you up in her enthusiasm for the subject.........So all in all I would totally recommend the book to introduce you to the search for the Divine feminine in the Judeo-Christian Tradition. Good solid historical facts, written with flare and passion for the subject.. ~ Highland Hedgewitch, Amazon
5 out of 5 stars: The Hidden Goddess by Laurie Martin Gardner is a study of the divine feminine within Judeo-Christian traditions, and is an intriguing read from start to finish. Of all the places to seek The Goddess, I would not have placed the Bible in any research materials, but Martin-Gardner illuminates her subtle presence in various forms from the mysterious Asherah to the well documented all to human Mary Magdalene, consort of Jesus. The book is well written and accessible to anyone interested in the lesser known places to search for feminine divinity. It certainly had me hooked from page one! Although only 76 pages long, there is an awful lot of invaluable information within the book, which examines in great detail the well known & loved figures such as Mary and Eve, along with controversial characters, such as Lilith, first wife of Adam. The author fluently expresses how suppression of the female within patriarchal religions has unbalanced the world view which in turn, has caused many to seek divinity elsewhere. I recommend this book to anyone but especially to those who are seeking The Goddess who is hidden in plain sight. ~ Vate Pathfollower, Amazon
This timely, robust and provocative examination of the pivotal and enduring place of Goddess within the Jewish and Christian faith traditions is deeply inspiring. Laurie Martin-Gardner’s textual analysis brings a refreshing re-framing of the continual presence, devotion to, and existence of Goddess despite the myriad attempts to destroy or hide her. This book brings to life the reality of Goddess, past and present. It is a valuable resource for scholars of all religions traditions and readers interested to know more about Goddess while simultaneously offering a powerful new perspective for Goddess loving readers. ~ Dr Lynne Sedgmore CBE, Poetess, Priestess and Founder of Goddess Luminary Wheel
