Rating 5*. As a reiki practitioner and end-of-life doula, this book was exactly what I needed to marry the two parts of my job. I can't say enough good things about the training program I did for my death doula training, but what was missing for me was the metaphysical part of that process. This book filled that gap beautifully. A Guide of Spirits is written in a way that makes this work accessible to everyone and was very much needed. Many reiki people are only focused on working with the living and are very quick to just banish spirits rather than seeing spirits as beings that are in need of our help and healing. I am thrilled that this work encourages and tells people how to work with the dead in this way. Not all are called to work with the dying and dead, and it really is a true calling. It's wonderful to have a resource that is not either just New Age Schlock or overcomplicating things. I actually really love all of Chris Allaun's books but this one is especially great for me. Thank you for sharing your experiences, philosophies, and methods with us, Chris. Those things that were new to me have already been put into practice. And thank you for the work that you do. ~ Blair Graves, Amazon US
Rating 5*. Being open enough to believe! This is an awesome book, well written and sincere! Chris Allaun knows his stuff and expresses it in such a way you just want more information on the subject. He isn't trying to convince readers he's right he's giving the reader the chance to open themselves to the possibilities. Give the book and his other writing a go you will become a sponge wanting to know more! ~ Stephanie Carter, Amazon US
Rating 5*. Being in the same line of work as Chris, I cannot recommend this book more highly! Full of very insightful, helpful information. A must have for anyone interested in this from a Pagan/metaphysical point of view. ~ robinkanstein, Amazon US

Rating 5*. A clear and luminous dive into the work of a psychopomp. One of the things students and spiritual seekers often tell me is that the classical texts and mainstream books written in the 20th century about such things as psychopomps, working with the dead, and the Underworld itself don't feel as relevant or resonant with what it means to be an esoteric practitioner in the 21st century. And it's easy to understand why some may feel that way. Chris Allaun's book, "A Guide of Spirits" is not only refreshingly relevant, but like his other masterful books, makes finding one's psychopomp teacher, understanding the Underworld, and learning the diverse tapestry of traditions that make up our spiritual practices around death more accessible and I think, resonant with postmodern magickal practitioners. Blending the ancient wisdom of mystics with magickal practices of the ancient and modern worlds of magick, Chris Allaun allows the practitioner interested in exploring the possible calling to work as a psychopomp with framework, context and insight that could only be called "indispensable". I'm going to recommend this to students and seekers in our school and larger community very highly. ~ Frederick Salvato, Amazon US
Rating 5*. A well needed discourse! This is a well written book. The subject of which is rarely touched in depth by a knowledgeable writer. This is a breath of fresh air for those working with spirits of the dead. Both communing with them but also helping in their transition into the next level of ethereal existence. The later part is rarely touched on in depth by the experienced sorcerer or spiritualist. This is what makes this work so beneficial, not only to the reader, but to the spirits being worked with. That in itself makes this tome invaluable. It is well written. Clear and understandable. The information contained within could be applied on so many levels with a multitude of positive results that are sure to follow. I highly recommend this book ~ Jim Ralston, Amazon US
Rating 5*. A wonderful introduction! A guide to spirits is a wonderful addition to my library! For those who are new to working with the Spirits of the dead, this is a wonderful introduction which explains the basics: The history, the reasons, and how to begin. For those who are no longer beginners, there are insights, exercises and tidbits to reignite your practice. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for more information on this practice. ~ elizaphn, Amazon US
Rating 5*. Great teachings! What a great moment is that, when you allow yourself to learn something new and explore different perspectives and traditions. I've learned so much from this book! I love the detailed explanations, exercises, different techniques on ways to help the spirits that Chris added on this book. There's no secret. I'm a fan! A great book for the new practitioner and the seasoned Witch (teacher, Minister etc) ~ Laura G., Amazon US
Rating 5*. Clear, straightforward, and fulfilling a large need. Not only did I find the subject fascinating and sorely needed, the writing itself is a pleasure to read. The author uses a friendly, compassionate voice to talk about a number of subjects that are difficult or even taboo in our larger culture. This book covers everything I needed to know on this subject in a concise and organized format, and ultimately I'm glad that it exists. ~ George Marshall, Amazon US
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. This book is an excellent introduction to working with spirits and includes not only a lot of guidance for getting started but a lot of advice for what to do when some common problems arise. It is heavily western chakra-based but many of the techniques could be modified. Growing up in the Spiritualist Church most of the topics discussed in this book were familiar to me. However, it offered a new and interesting perspective and I appreciated hearing about how people from other traditions navigate the guiding of and communication with spirits. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this work even if you think you lack a natural talent and especially if you feel overwhelmed as to where to start. ~ Rya Fenner (Reviewer) , NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This book is remarkable and probably the best one I have read in a long time. The reason it is so special is it answers so many questions that I have had. Not only answers but gives ways to see for yourself! The scope of this well written and easily understandable book is just right. From the time we all die we are going somewhere we all hope! Maybe some stay here? Maybe some go to heaven or other places but how does anyone know? I loved the explanations of where the author believes we go because it is consistent with much I have read in other books and religions. However the most interesting explanation of death I found was the one about what some wiccans believe happens when we die. I had never heard of the rose castle and after reading about it I am intrigued with its concepts. The title is also shamanic in its nature with a focus on the three worlds and the possibilities of visiting them to help or see a loved one. I really believe this book breaks new ground and opens the way up for intelligent discussion amongst those curious about death. I feel better about my own passing after reading this. ~ Patrick Carmen (Reviewer), NetGalley

"A fascinating and in depth look at the active side of psychopomp work, this book will guide you through understanding what this work entails and the basics of doing it. From supporting the dying to dealing with haunted places, with an emphasis on healing, Chris Allaun's 'A Guide of Spirits' is perfect for beginners or more experienced practitioner." ~ Morgan Daimler, author of Fairies: A Guide to the Celtic Fair Folk
"A serious and erudite examination of the important roles or performing last rites, passing over and preliminary funereal duties. As the author points out, this is not a popular role within Paganism and spirituality generally - it is not for everyone. This book tackles the subject with sensitivity from the point of view of the needs of the dying, rather than the bereaved, and is full of practical advice and help for those wishing to work in this area." ~ Luke Eastwood, author of “The Druid’s Primer” and “The Journey”
'More people are being called to normalize the process of dying and to work with spirits as they move from this life to the next. This call has been growing louder in the last few years. Christopher Allaun’s A Guide of Spirits: A Psychopomp’s Manual for Transitioning The Dead To The Afterlife is his response to this need for knowledge and instruction. His approach and methods in the book are clearly guided by his spirits, his spiritual company, as well as his own experience in this work. The methods and insights presented are specific, well organized, and manage to leave open the way for adjustment to suit the reader’s beliefs and background. He speaks from his experience as an example and encourages the reader to find their way forward into the work. Whether you are an old hand or a newcomer you will find insights in A Guide of Spirits to improve your practice.' ~ Ivo Dominguez Jr, author of Keys to Perception: A Practical Guide to Psychic Development
"A Guide of Spirits is an in-depth yet accessible exploration of a critical subject that few books go into great detail about: the Psychopomp. In a society where the subject of death is often eschewed and any talk concerning the realms of spirits is given the side-eye, it's far too easy to lose touch with the meaning of life itself and our connection to the Universe. Christopher opens up the door to these mysteries, illuminating them without fluff or being sensational. He provides the reader with a practical guide for how to safely and responsibly interact with spirits and be a means of healing and direction for them in your practice. Definitely a worthwhile read for the magical practitioner seeking to gain greater understanding of what happens after this life and other realms of existence." ~ Laura Tempest Zakroff, author of Weave the Liminal

'Throughout history, the role of a psychopomp has been to guide the soul of the deceased through the Afterword. In our modern world this role is seen as more than that: it is one of also providing spiritual healing and even guidance for the departed.
