Kanti V. Mardia

Kanti V. Mardia is Senior Research Professor in Statistics at Leeds University. A native of Rajasthan, he has MSc degrees in Statistics and Pure Mathematics from the Universities of Bombay (now Mumbai) and Poona respectively. Kanti earned his PhD and DSc from the University of Newcastle and was appointed to the Chair of Applied Statistics at Leeds in 1973. He has also served as Director of the Centre for Medical Imaging Research.
Kanti was awarded the Guy Medal in Silver from the Royal Statistical Society in 2003 and had an audience with the (then) President of India, H.E. Dr Abdul Kalam, in 2007, where they discussed ‘Statistics, Science and Spirituality’. Active for several decades in the British Jain community, Kanti is President of the Yorkshire Jain Foundation and a previous Director of the Jain Academy. He has published many research papers and monographs on Statistics. He has also published several articles on Jainism, and was Editor of Jaina. He lives in Leeds, UK.
