Joan D. Stamm
Joan D. Stamm is the author of the award-winning book, Heaven and Earth are Flowers: Reflections on Ikebana and Buddhism, published by Wisdom Publications in 2010. In a book review by Shambhala Sun, the editor described her prose as “gorgeously poetic.”
Stamm’s essays have appeared in the Best Spiritual Writing series; Tricycle: The Buddhist Review; Utne Reader; Mindful.org; and other publications.
From 1991 to1993, Stamm lived and worked in Japan where she engaged in Zen practice at various temples in the Kansai region. When she returned to the States, she continued to practice and study both Zen and Tibetan Buddhism for the next twenty-five years under a variety of notable teachers.
Stamm currently resides on Orcas Island, Washington where she co-founded Cold Mountain Hermitage, a Buddhist study and practice group. In addition, she holds an MFA in writing and multi-cultural literature from Bennington College.
