Julia Jean North
Julia North is a writer who enjoys writing in a range of genres, from gritty reality and the human experience, psychological thrillers and fantasy. Julia has always been a dreamer with a touch of the rebel. At school it was English literature and of course creative writing that were her favorite subjects and the only ones she took a real interest in as she was somewhat on the lazy side.
Reading and living in the world of the imagination were the things that inspired her, and she soon began writing her own stories just for the love of it. As a teacher she has headed a number of Departments during this time and taught a range of subjects from English, History, Drama, Philosophy and Ethics and Anthropology and progressed to being a Deputy Head. For Julia, everything she’s experienced has fed her writing – because in essence she believes that writing is about being human and sharing our human experience - the fun, the mystery, the magic, the battles and the heartache.
Julia studied an Advanced Writing course through the Open College of the Arts and went on to obtain a master’s degree in Creative Writing from Edinburgh University. She ahs published both children’s books, YA and adult but has many more books inside her just waiting to come out.
She was born in South Africa but moved to the UK in 2000. She lives in Salisbury, Wiltshire, a Medieval city with an awesome cathedral. She still holds a love for her African roots and the magic of that continent and both the light and darkness of it featured strongly in ‘Lieutenant Hotshot’ as well as in her psychological thriller ‘Hear Me.
She’s an avid reader and loves to read a wide range of topics. One of her favorite books is Paul Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’ – a stirring story of destiny and following your dreams. For her writing is doing just that and as an eternal optimist she’s determined to keep going.
