Christian life (general)
Growing in and through life is vital if we are to become the people that God designed us to be. In this book Janine Fair examines the importance of growing and the tools that God has already given us to help us in this task. By sharing something of her own personal journey of discovery, she invites us to explore the role that emotions can play in facilitating this process, and the importance of encountering the truth, using questions to help us reflect, allowing our relationships with others to draw us closer to God, choosing wisely, harnessing our willingness, taking responsibility for our growth, aligning ourselves with God s purposes and plans, and helping one another grow.
Janine Fair is a qualified medical doctor and life coach, as well as a clergy widow and single parent. She is a committed Christian and her first book, Surprised by Grief, was published in 2010.

Janines story of growth through events she would never have chosen provide inspiration, hope and practical tools for those whom themselves find life has not worked out as they had hoped or expected. She writes with honesty and integrity as she spells out how she has lived what she writes. Janine has refused to let her pain shape her image of God, but rather has let her image of God shape her pain. This book shows how she has done that. This book is no mere theory on spiritual growth - its been tried and tested in the furnace of pain, frustration and disappointment - and has been proved to bring about fruitfulness, lasting change and, most importantly of all, a deep and real imtimacy with a loving Heavenly Father.

Wise, discerning, by turns both challenging and comforting, this book is a gift I would give to all the women whom I counsel. As a person who encounters people daily in need of spiritual guidance, I found it not simply insightful, but practical and compassionate. Janine invites her readers to take God seriously, to confront the issue of repressed emotions and trust that he cannot only heal, but transform our lives. She outlines the steps we need to take in order to see ourselves as God sees us. She does so by writing winsomely and persuasively. Anyone who reads this book with an open heart will find themselves challenged. But most of all, they will gain a new vision of God’s invitation to all of us. To discover his goodness. And his love. I highly recommend it.

This is a love story. Yes, it is a carefully crafted, clearly written and deeply reflective book about personal growth from a Christian perspective, filled with insights, wisdom and very real practical applications that will be truly life changing for those who listen to its voice and make it their own. But it is much more than that; it is a love story. Janine’s understanding of ‘growing into life’ began when she fell in love with Richard. He started her on a journey of liberating self-discovery only to die suddenly nine years later leaving her a widow and mother of two small children. Out of trauma and grief the seeds that Richard had lovingly planted began to germinate leading her into a deeper love for God, for herself and those around her. This book has grown out of love and this is the gift that Janine offers us as readers.

Long ago Job asked where can wisdom be found, only to discover that it came as gift through painful wrestling and persistent prayer.
In this remarkable book Janine demonstrates the continuing value of the timeless gift of wisdom which has been rooted in life, shaped by reflection, and formed in painful hope-filled prayer. She has known grief and clung on, held in the scarred but faithful hands of Christ; here she holds out a hand to us who find ourselves wanting to grow, whatever our circumstances, into the precious mystery of all that God calls us to be in Christ. This is a practical gem.
