John Quenby

John Quenby is Professor Emeritus at Imperial College London. He has made his career there since he was an undergraduate. His main scientific interest has been in astrophysics, the large scale structure of the universe, where he has done significant work leading to a large number of professional papers and the co-editorship of an important book in this field. For the past two decades he has researched dark matter, the mysterious invisible 'something' which appears to alter the rate at which the universe expands. Professor Quenby serves on various committees in the Rochester and Canterbury Dioceses and his main theological interest is in Process Theology, which is one way of describing the relationship between God and creation.
John MacDonald Smith read Maths and Physics at Christ's College, Cambridge, and can show you the rooms Darwin occupied there. He spent some years after graduating at the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment, Aldermaston, working on what was at that time very advanced engineering Physics including the measurement of time intervals as short as one fifty thousand millionth of a second. He subsequently became a priest in the Church of England and continued writing on science and religion and on ecology and the environment. In the early 1980's he became Hon. Secretary of Clergy Against Nuclear Arms, seeing it grow to 600 members of the clergy of all denominations. He is the author of a book on the nature of God and has contributed to a number of collections of essays.
