John Morris

John Morris, M.A.(Corpus, Cambridge), PGCE (London), M.Ed (East Africa), and PhD (Exeter), born in 1937, was a teacher, teacher-trainer and lecturer for 35 years, some of them in Uganda 1963-71. After retirement John was ordained as an unpaid Anglican clergyman in 1995, assisting three rural parishes in Hampshire, UK for six years; while being chaplain of Twyford School for eleven; and unpaid Chairman for 17 years of FABHD, a UK charity, Friends of Albella Boys Home, Darjeeling including primary and secondary schooling for boys and non-resident girls.www.albellaboyshome.co.uk.
But his priority remains caring over 23 years for his grandson, Daniel, born severely handicapped in 1999, on his regular stays with John and Mary in Winchester, now lifting him with a hoist.and using a hospital-like bed.

John and Mary married in 1960 and had three children, one of them dying as a baby in Uganda where John taught and trained secondary teachers for 9 years.John's three books wrestle with a benevolent God whose world includes the desperate in East Africa and India, and all genetically damaged people like his grandson. John's middle of the road Christianity backs theistic evolution and faith that is evidence-led rather than dogma-driven. In plain English John writes inclusively, for those with some kind of religious faith or those with none; he attempts to make his views credible in our contemporary world.

His hobbies include researching several sciences (earth, biology, genetics, physics, medicine) and gardening, Now very little tennis, squash and high altitude trekking.,

More is on his website www.contemporarycreed.org.uk. He is a floating voter, sceptical of party politics, but did organise protests over the Falklands and marched against the impending Iraq war.
