Stephen McCarthy

Stephen McCarthy

Stephen McCarthy is a cradle Catholic. He studied physics in Oxford, but moved on to development economics, spending six years in Botswana. He then spent the rest of his professional life at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg working on the development assistance programme of the EU, particularly in Africa. He took early retirement to deepen his understanding of theology and spirituality. In particular, he walked the Camino de Santiago and followed the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius, and then trained to become a spiritual director. He has since given a number of spiritual retreats in that particular tradition. Both his original background in physics and his experience as an economist have informed the writing of this book.
