Christopher Goodchild

Christopher Goodchild is a writer, Ignatian spiritual director and Alexander Technique teacher. He is a Quaker with a deep interest in Buddhist psychology, eastern philosophy, Advaita Vedanta and the Christian contemplative tradition. Based in London, he runs courses on Contemplative Spirituality and the Alexander Technique. Diagnosed with autism in 2007, he is passionate about raising awareness of the enormous richness and diversity of the autism spectrum. An eloquent speaker as Ambassador for the National Autistic Society since 2010, he has featured in campaigns, broadcasts and interviews. His heartrending account of life with autism formed the subject of his first book, A Painful Gift, The Journey of a Soul with Autism published in 2009. Through his writing Christopher walks alongside his readers, not so much in his role as spiritual director, but as a fellow-traveller, writing from a deeply human place of vulnerability and humility. He teaches us not from some far distant place, but from personal experience, from the heart. His writing portrays his characteristic lyricism and tenderhearted compassionate observations on the human condition. He loves walking in both remote and urban areas and is known for writing from various locations around London and in the wild. He is passionate about non-league football and is a keen supporter of Wealdstone, his childhood team. He has one son.
