Kimerer L. LaMothe, PhD

A philosopher, dancer, and scholar of religion, with a PhD from Harvard, LaMothe lives with her life-partner and their five children on a homestead in rural New York. After six years teaching at Brown and then Harvard Universities, LaMothe moved to the country and co-founded Vital Arts, a center for arts and ideas dedicated to creating life-affirming responses to the challenges of our time. An award-winning author, she has received fellowships from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and the Center for the Study of World Religions, both at Harvard, as well as the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council. Her six books include: Why We Dance (Columbia University Press), Nietzsche's Dancers (Palgrave MacMillan) and Between Dancing and Writing (Fordham University Press). She has written numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, over 100 posts for her "What a Body Knows" blog at Psychology Today, and two musicals. LaMothe speaks and teaches at colleges, universities, and conferences in the US and abroad, illuminating dance as a potent resource for addressing current health and climate crises. When not writing or dancing, LaMothe is helping her children take care of their three cats, five jersey cows, eight chickens, and large vegetable garden. www.kimererlamothe.com
