There is no greater power in the universe than thought. Our ability to think is infinite and inexhaustible.

While thought may seem like a subtle, nebulous thing, it is an actual force, a substance that is every bit as ‘real’ as electricity, light, or any dense and solid object. We are permanently surrounded by a vast ocean of thought that is constantly flowing to us and through us. Thinking is a creative process of life that is in perpetual motion. It’s what minds do. We can no more stop thinking than we can stop breathing.

There is no greater power in the universe than thought. Our ability to think is infinite and inexhaustible. Thought travels incredibly quickly – much faster than the speed of sound – and is not limited by time or distance. Think of someone you know who lives on the other side of the world. How long did it take you to bring them to mind? Think of something you did last week, ten years ago. Think ahead to something you anticipate doing in the future. The process is virtually instantaneous.

Our thoughts, words and actions all belong to the world of gross matter, not to the ethereal realm. Our thoughts may be invisible to the naked eye but they nevertheless manifest within the world of fine gross matter. Our words operate in the realm of medium gross matter, and our actions take place within the world of dense, or coarse, gross matter. Thoughts, words and actions are intimately related to one another, interwoven.

Our thoughts are no less connected to something that can be seen and felt in the material realm than a shadow with the object it replicates. In the same way that a shadow points us to the physical reality, physical reality indicates the nature of thought.

Human thinking is the shadowing forth of ideas and beings belonging to a higher world…

– Rudolf Steiner

This mirroring may take place within the current material reality, within the etheric world or across other timelines or lifetimes, but it will nevertheless take place. Everything you see around you right now has occurred as a result of your previous thinking.

Once it is understood that every thought is a vibrational, spiritual form in its own right, evolving, developing, molding and shaping itself continually, then much becomes clear. A thought will radiate outwards, often outliving the body in which it was initiated, yet it always remains attached to its point of origin, and will sooner or later come spiraling back. Thus, the value of mindfulness becomes apparent. Every thought-creation will one day return to us.

If you want to know the quality of your thoughts then take a look around you. Without exception, your personal environment and your relationships will provide you with clear feedback, acting as a mirror for your former thinking.

Focused attention is a key principle in all energy work. Where attention goes, energy flows. We will always get more of whatever we focus upon. Just as Facebook algorithms are designed to give us a better experience by showing us more posts of the type that we recently liked and commented on, or from the friends we last interacted with, so the Universe will generously provide us with more of whatever we engage with. Facebook doesn’t know that we would prefer to see posts from certain friends. If we haven’t connected with them recently, then they won’t appear in our news feed until we start doing so.

Each thought has a frequency and translates as an inner sound or vibration, but thoughts will also strive to materialize. A thought has structure, just as an atom, a molecule, or a table leg does. One thought attracts another, which attracts another, and another, together gaining in strength, until eventually they manifest in our physical reality with some solidity. The type of thought can easily be felt in the body. Some thoughts feel light; others feel heavy and weigh us down. Just as a stone will sink to the bottom of a bowl of water and a cork will bob to the top, so the soul becomes lighter or heavier through the nature of repeated patterns of thinking. The rules of density and gravity apply as equally in the non-material world as they do in the world we see around us.

If we don’t like what we are seeing around us then we simply have to change our thoughts. We can always change our thoughts, and thus it is always possible to create a different situation from every now moment. Indeed, if we keep on thinking the same thoughts about a situation it is highly unlikely that it will change without assistance from some outside force.
