October 21 is National Apple Day in England. In the Pagan world of Ancient Rome the festival of Pomona, Goddess of the Apple Orchards, was also about this time of year. In the Moon Books community book Every Day Magic, I wrote this entry for today:

Apple Day: This annual celebration of apples and orchards is a modern festival, although the Pagan festival Pomonia, for the Roman orchard Goddess Pomona, was soon after on November 1, marking the end of the apple harvest. It was celebrated with games that might have included apple bobbing. Eat an apple today – or bake an apple pie – in honour of Pomona.
