David Raymond Kopacz

David is a psychiatrist, writer, artist, poet, and international speaker. He has long been interested in different approaches to healing body, mind, and spirit which has led to board certification with the American Board of Integrative & Holistic Medicine and the American Board of Integrative Medicine. David's healing journey has followed many paths, studying world religions, Carl Jung, and Joseph Campbell. Since 2014, David has been studying with co-author, Joseph Rael (Beautiful Painted Arrow) who is of Picuris Pueblo and the Southern Ute tribe.

Clinically, David has worked in diverse settings: in the US in VA, academic, multi-specialty group practice, rural community mental health, and in New Zealand at Manaaki House community mental health, assertive community outreach, and he was Clinical Director of Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre - an inpatient/residential psychiatric program with a holistic recovery and person-centered approach. His work in these diverse settings has given him the experience and understanding of many different health care systems.

David has taught at many different levels, developing courses, lectures, and workshops at the community, community college, undergraduate, health professions, medical school, and postgraduate levels. He has presented on topics of trauma, creativity, transformation, physician well-being, and holistic health in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji.

David currently works in Primary Care Mental Health Integration with the Seattle Veterans Affairs, he is a Whole Health Education Champion with the national VA Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural transformation, and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, United States. He is the author of Re-humanizing Medicine: A Holistic Framework for Transforming Your Self, Your Practice, and the Culture of Medicine (2014) and with Joseph Rael (Beautiful Painted Arrow) Walking the Medicine Wheel: Healing Trauma & PTSD (2016).
