Book of the century if you ask me. I'm reading Ancient Teachings again (third time) at the same time as The Heroic Heart by Tenzin Palmo - it fits in so well with my Buddhist teachings that it's become indispensable. ~ Leslie Tarrago, Email
Excellent Read. Well written, easy to follow guide to a better me/you. ~ Anon, Amazon UK
Essential Reading. This warm & inviting book is a wonderful reminder of the continuity and importance of solid spiritual themes and practices that are just as useful to us now in the 21st century as they were in antiquity. As a spiritual seeker myself, many of the themes were not new to me, but were so inspirationally described that I was able to see themes in a new light that gave me enrichment and spiritual food for thought. I would highly recommend that this book be bought for every home library - it is a salve and a balm in an increasingly chaotic world. ~ Tanya Blackiston, Amazon UK

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Ancient Teachings for Modern Times succeeds in presenting a rich variety of wisdom teachings in a beautifully arranged and readable way. The fourteen chapter titles, including The Breath of Life, The Wee Small Hours and Community, point to a fresh, down-to-earth, approach. This becomes even clearer as we discover the quotations and experiential sections interspersed throughout, which provide not just fascinating reading, but practical guidance as well. Peta Morton writes clearly and engagingly, with her writing on the power of the spoken word a timely reminder in these days of political polarization. So much good stuff in here! ~ Tony, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Science and mysticism - two sides of the same coin. I loved Peta's book so much I bought three copies: two paperbacks -one to keep and one to give - and a kindle edition so I would have it on my computer for easier reference. The book has lots of exercises that helped me experience the esoteric things she talked about. I say esoteric only because that is what folks would have said about such matters years ago. But science is catching up to mysticism and Peta is one of the voices that is making that possible. ~ Janice Bisset, Amazon US
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This book was written for me! Actually, everyone should read it. It is uplifting and made me feel so good. The author has a wonderful writing style. There are fourteen chapters in the book each with a different topic. She added famous quotes depending on the subject. Although it is a short book, I took my time reading it and savoring every word. There is positivity on every page. In fact, I even took pictures of sections so that I can paste them in my journal. I highly recommend this book to everyone but especially to anyone that needs more positivity in their life. ~ Dawn Thomas (Reviewer - Belladona's Books), NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Ancient Teachings for Modern Times provides the reader with a great roadmap into spiritual ideas, meditation practices, healing techniques, and more. It’s suitable for both the newcomer to the path and the more experienced seeker, as it lays out information clearly and concisely with depth and understanding. Despite the fact that many of the concepts covered are abstract or complex, Morton renders them accessible without diminishing their breadth, depth, or importance. Including both metaphysical ideas and current scientific thought, this book covers a plethora of spiritual subjects and provides a springboard for the reader to dive into specific topics as per their own interests. Guiding the reader from vibration and energy through breathwork (honestly, if everyone could read this chapter I’m sure many of the modern-day stresses would cease to be!), thoughts, limiting beliefs, the language we use, and emotions, Morton lays the groundwork for the later sections of the book. Here, the tricker concepts of prayer, dark nights of the soul, integrity, gratitude and community are addressed. I particularly appreciated the inclusion of the chapters on taking responsibility and taking action, as these are subjects that are often overlooked in other spiritual self-help guides, and the realisation that we are all interconnected is at the heart of this book. Despite its slim size, do not be fooled: Morton is concise with her words but her knowledge and experience are apparent, and what she offers here is great in terms of the sheer amount of information and the layers that are packed into this book. She is excellent at explaining how each subject is relevant to today’s world, and includes a variety of quotes from many authors and thought leaders from throughout history. This is a fascinating and absorbing read which comes very highly recommended, and should be on every spiritual seeker’s bookshelf. ~ Heather K Veitch (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating 5 out of 5 Stars: Superb, easy to read, very thought provoking and inspiring. Highly recommended. ~ Clare, Amazon FR
Peta Morton has written an excellent and rather beautiful book about how ancient thought and belief is still relevant and gives us pointers about how we can live our lives in the current society. I liked it and I will keep it to dip into as it’s the kind of book that you can randomly choose a page and have something to think about or journal. It has quotes and is an easy read even where the ideas might require some thought. There are elements of academic research mixed in with quotes from famous people and overall the learning towards spiritual enlightenment is well laid out and easy to follow. This is a very straightforward and clear book and I recommend it to anyone looking for some guidance towards a satisfying life. I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley in return for an honest review. ~ Anne Maguire (Reviewer), Anne Maguire (Reviewer)

This book is a total education for life. Full of nuggets of knowledge that Peta manages to transmit to the reader in layman's terms, with, as well, practical ways for the reader in order to understand and demonstrate. Peta is a complete specialist in her field with a wealth of knowledge that goes deep and wide but has the capacity to convey in the simplest of terms. A book that inspires, that gives us the keys to a truly fulfilling life, and to guide to living the life we deserve to live. Every home needs this book. ~ N Peet, Amazon FR
This would be a really good book for anyone who is new to the concepts of mindfulness, manifestation and energy healing. It is very readable and the ideas are clearly expressed. So even though it touches on some scientific concepts there is no need to have any prior knowledge to enjoy and understand the book. What I particularly liked was the way the book was structured, with chapters covering topics such as our thoughts, our limiting beliefs, our breath, our emotions, taking responsibility and our place in the community. So although the concepts in the book were not new to me, the author is very good at demonstrating the direct impact on our lives of each subject..........And having started by saying that the book would be a goldmine for anyone starting out on a journey of discovering how we create our own lives and realities, as the author said, we all need a gentle reminder from time to time - and this one is well worth reading. ~ Rosalind Bryden (Reviewer) , NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I just loved this book! Shivers, high vibrations, calm breath, understanding again a bit better one’s inner self. These are my feelings when immersing into Peta’s marvelous, densely packed book of wisdom. For all of us who seek meaning as spiritual beings, this book serves us with the essence of ancient wisdom in such a fascinating, simplistic and at the same time in an extremely profound manner. To me, this book is a collage of the essence of being. Each chapter immerses the reader in its depth and the practical exercises bring the experience to everyone’s reach. I enjoyed every word, and every pause needed to take a deep breath and accept the understanding to sink in. I’m so grateful that this book is now in my reach to forever go back to and refresh my understanding of the meaning of humanness. ~ Niina S, Amazon US & GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Peta Morton is an amazing teacher and a very beautiful soul. Her book is written with the best she has to offer to the world. Her knowledge and her spirit are in these pages, available to be spread in the hearts of people who want to lead a meaningful life. ~ Anaïs Roussin, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This book has many, many wonderful points explained in simple words. The author makes understanding easy... From page one I was taken on a ride that spiraled ever inward, upward and outward as I literally pored over and devoured her words. I have followed a path much like she speaks about for well over 20 years and I wish I had this manual when I stepped onto my path. I feel more enlightened now, finding much I only briefly heard of or touched upon... Amazingly, I am more enthusiastic and energized from reading her words. The author has put much time, effort and study as well as extensive research in compiling this work. I bow to her in both humility and gratitude. I gratefully thank her for her honesty, integrity and willingness to step out of her comfort zone to write this book. I know I will be constantly referring to my many, many highlighted words daily, if not more often. ~ Faith, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Practical and down to earth. A lovely book, written in a no-nonsense, unpretentious style. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. A toolkit that belongs on every seeker’s bookshelf. This is a thoughtful book, overflowing with ideas for inspiration, growth, and deeper understanding. It's filled with great quotes and nuggets of wisdom. Even though ancient wisdom is nothing 'new' you will no doubt find lots of things that are new to you or newly relevant in today's world. For example, the author cites research that finds "the earth’s magnetic field is a 'carrier of biologically relevant information that connects all living systems', to which the consciousness of each individual is connected, is influenced by and influences. What might be possible if larger groups of people intentionally and collectively cultivated loving and heart-centered energies? Consider how twenty minutes of stillness might contribute to a more balanced global consciousness." This book is a powerful, thought-provoking toolkit that belongs on every seeker's bookshelf. Highly recommended. You can dip in and out of it, or read cover to cover. Works both ways. ~ D Reed, Amazon US
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This guide is filled with ancient/philosophical teachings, but broken down to help you make the most of them in your own life. There also are inspirational quotes from the greatest teachers of our times and practical exercises sprinkled throughout to help you implement the ideas for yourself. ~ Amy Blevins, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. An incredibly powerful book. Your perspective on life and self changes whilst you are reading it. Definitely one to come back to time and time again, if life ever starts to slump. I’ve even made a few notes in the margins to personalise Morton’s practical lessons. Would recommend to anyone. ~ Harry Grace, Amazon UK
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Insightful. The author has eloquently described an understanding of how we can improve our lives spiritually. As she writes, nothing is new. But Peta Morton has shared her insight and reminded us in clever experiences of how we can thoughtfully exist in the Modern World. ~ Avril Cummins, Amazon UK

Fantastic workbook for anyone starting on or continuing on their journey towards enlightenment. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It is so hard to explain complex ideas on the intricate workings of life. Really easy to understand and, not only that, fun and engaging to read, Peta has achieved this in her book. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, it will help you at any stage in your enlightenment process. It is the kind of book that you will endlessly come back to as well. One that you will pass down to your family and friends. ~ Lucy Hodges, Amazon UK
Rating 5 out of 5 stars. This book is Hygge! A real sit down and get cosy with a blanket read. Its not a self-help book but it WILL help you. This book is about you, your inner self, your inner mind, how to connect to it and how to retrain it. Peta Morton’s book is not just about mindfulness. It explains how everything is in a state of vibration, the beta and theta states and how they work and the best time to utilise them. This book demonstrates how the mind can be manipulated by self. Peppered with exercises for connecting to self and mind -.even throwing in a tasty nugget or two of scientific fact. Yes really, mindfulness and science! ~ Susan Gahan, GoodReads & Amazon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I must admit my review may not be without bias as the author is my mum. However, I can't express how happy I am to know some of her teachings can be as helpful to others as they have been to my sister and I growing up. ~ Ellie Morton, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This book is the unfolding of ancient truths and mysteries into a very readable and coherent form. It is taking a journey into the great mystics and scientific realities that always seemed to elusive to grasp but are explained where the pieces all fit and complement each other into a knowing that used to be scattered but now has grounded me. The explanations coupled with the quotes from masters to the personal lessons make for an experiential aliveness seldom found in one source. A true source of great wisdom. ~ Kirk Drake, GoodReads

Whether you read it cover to cover or only pick it up and use as a resource for whatever current question is nudging at your spirit, you’ll find Ancient Teachings for Modern Times is a timeless treasure trove of wisdom. Peta’s got an easily relatable and compassionate way about her as she gently takes you by the hand and offers up deep truth and insight she’s amalgamated from a vast array of the world’s great spiritual, philosophical, and religious paths. She sprinkles in a generous amount of poignant quotes from the highly recognizable to more obscure teachers and leaders throughout history as a way to connect your heart and mind to her teaching. Finally, she creates “Experiences” as a way for the reader apply the teaching and get a felt sense of the lesson/wisdom. It’s brilliant. While I’m grateful to have this book on my bookshelf now, I wish I’d had it so many years ago when I started down my own journey of spiritual seeking and finding. It would have brought peace and comfort to some of those bumpy times along the path. I know I’ll be using it in the years ahead. ~ Leanne Wood, GoodReads & Amazon.com
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Down to earth, personal and in your face, and at the same time funny, recognizable and hands-on. In her book Ancient Teachings for Modern Times, Peta manages to tick all these boxes. This easy to read book did not necessarily provide radical new things to me. However, it did provide new perspectives and easy to relate to examples through which many pennies dropped and resulted in small changes in my life. This morning, for example, I read back to how we create our own reality and particularly taking responsibility for our own life (chapter 11). After rereading the example Peta provided on her response to new people, I could take responsibility for my attitude in a work meeting and by that co-creating a constructive atmosphere, instead of the previous frustration with limited outcome. ~ Susan, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars: "Great book, with a very pleasing writing style. I liked it." ~ Kate, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars: Ancient Teachings for Modern Times is a vast base of spiritual information in one place. It’s like a map showing the way so you may eventually find other sources and go deeper into any topic that Peta Morton has exposed you to. It’s a great tool, especially if you use the exercises, for introducing spirituality to children, bit by bit. The wealth of knowledge is meant to be shared. I highly recommend this well written, well-researched book of spiritual knowledge, and wished I had it in my hands decades ago. ~ Brenda Molloy, GoodReads & Amazon.com
“If there's one thing to put on your Christmas list, it's this. Peta Morton’s incredible book should be a handbook for life, and I would go further and say, this should be part of life's education especially for teenagers. There's science, experiments, thoughts, theories and facts. I can't put it down!” ~ Nicky Peet, Facebook

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. A perfect book for exploration of one's self. Would sit nicely alongside those practicing yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Small chapters on specific topics are easy to read and digest, I particularly liked "The Wee Small Hours" - if you struggle to sleep then this is the one for you. ~ Maria Sutton (Reviewer), NetGalley
I liked this. It has lots of good quotes and some helpful exercises, and of course lots of wisdom. Maybe I read too much so I don't see much new anymore (some argue there are no new ideas; and this is ancient wisdom after all), so books like this for me are a set of nice reminders with an occasional a-ha. This is really well written and organized. Recommended. ~ Paul V (Reviewer), NetGalley

Self help with a cosmic twist, Ancient Teachings for Modern times neatly sidesteps religion and focuses instead on how opening oneself up emotionally to the subtle changes in the universe can improve your life. ~ Kinsey F (Reviewer), NetGalley
This was a beautiful book. I like how you can read it all the way through or you can just open it and let the universe lead you to what you need to read. The teachings in this book are from mystic traditions around the world but they are applied for our modern mind and made easy to use. This is a wonderful book and I can't wait to purchase it. ~ Rose Frum (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. What an amazing insightful book, that was so inspirational to read. It will long inform my personal and spiritual life journey. It encompasses the very heart of life, vibrations, breath, thoughts, beliefs, the word, emotions, appreciation, integrity and so much more. The book enables you to access ancient wisdoms, interpreted by Peta Morton to help the reader move towards a fulfilling life both for themselves and others in their lives. The book is knowledgable and knowledge filled. It enlightens its readers, enabling them to calm the confusion life can present, to believe we have the power to change ourselves for the better. The author takes us through a mystical experience, a book of truths, resonating with things deep down we know to be true. It challenges our thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Not since reading Eckhart Tolle have I been so inspired by a book. A true ‘must read’ which you will treasure as a rare gift from the heart of this talented writer. ~ Anne Stafford, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Practical and up-to-date take on ancient teachings. This book does what it says on the tin, and Peta has done a great job of bringing together essential points from the common ground covered by many ancient teachers, presenting them to the modern reader in a way that is very clear and easy to take on board. I especially like this quote from the Buddha, and the way that Peta encourages readers to view her own work in the same empowering light: "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." - Buddha In line with this, I found Peta's work to be an unexpected starting point for my own enquiry. So many of these ancient teachings are deceptively simple, yet I discover my own engagement with them changing and deepening as time passes and maturity grows, and I have valued this opportunity to review and re-evaluate my own take on what's presented. Indeed, there are many opportunities throughout the book to compare the teachings to our own direct experience, in a way that cuts across the spectrum of different spiritual experiences and perspectives. My personal orientation these days is devotional, which differs from the practical focus of this book, and yet is not excluded by it. Indeed there are a lot of no-nonsense insights: this is fundamentally a very straightforward book offering useful tools to help people shift out of those places in our lives where we feel stuck! Spirituality was never meant to be something limited to monks living up on a mountain, and Peta's work is a grounded and real take on teachings which have been instrumental to her during recovery from a very serious illness. If this resonates with you, then here you go! ~ Shelly Moram, GoodReads & Amazon UK
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. A Beautiful Gift for Seekers at Any Stage of the Journey. There is so much to love about this book. I love that you can read it straight through or dip in anywhere for a cosmic zhujzh, if you will. The quotations alone that bring home important points about our consciousness from seemingly disparate sources are amazing. All of the practical advice and exercises are excellent, too -- there are so many, but you don't have to finish one thing to move on in your reading if you don't want to, which is a thing in some books with exercises that can hold up a reader. But not here! It flows. Also - personally, I've been meditating for a long time, recently learned TM, and yet I found in this book new (and easy) tweaks to make my meditation even more effective. The writing is beautiful, too, and you feel like a good friend is explaining a lot of wonderful things to you. Highly recommend for the novice or the person who has already read all the spiritual stuff that's out there. It's fresh and delightful. ~ Jenn Sutkowski, Amazon US
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Beautifully written. Insightful, precise, practical. Ancient Teachings for Modern Times shines a light on metaphysical mysteries of the subtle energies all around us. Author, Peta Morton, makes complex concepts accessible, drawing congruencies between current science and ancient teachings across cultures, exploring the interconnectedness of breath, thoughts, words, emotions, gratitude, surrender and integrity. Suggested exercises are both practical and presented with gentle insightful guidance encouraging us to make them our own. ~ Michele Nur, Amazon US
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars: No spoilers here! Morton bridges timeless wisdom with writing as modern as tomorrow. This book spoke to me. As a modern-day counselor and recreational monk, I wish more folks could read this book. Reading literature that is both of the mind and heart gives me a somatic experience. Some call them goosebumps! I've come to call them truthbumps. This read gave me plenty! ~ William Morris Dreschler, GoodReads
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. Finally a book of wisdoms for the laymom short on time, big on wisdom. This book took my breath away. Or, alternatively, I finally understood within one text how to truly breathe. Thank heavens for Peta Morton who is able to translate these incredibly complex teachings into my lay-brain. My favorite line is how she started the book. "Nothing in this book is new." What a relief because I don't have it in me to learn a whole new thing that is based on one person's view. What Morton does so well is braid the best and brightest and most insightful wisdoms of the world and make them practical for me to incorporate into my regular life. I'm grateful because this is an easy read, and Morton welcomes you to flit around the book at will, which is what I did. Five stars, all the way, and totally something to share with family especially around the holidays. Wonderful. ~ Allison Lane, Amazon US

This is definitely the kind of book that begs repeated reading. ~ Alexandra Sheren, GoodReads

Natasha Hoffman author of Let the Standing Stones Speak, artist, intuitive healer The ancient teachings are as relevant now as when they were written, and they were only written because even then we had lost our way as we have now, and needed them as we do now. Over time the teachings were misinterpreted and misunderstood, and confused us, so we did not apply them. Peta says that nothing in this book is new, but what is new is her clarity of understanding of the teachings, and her ability to use words in a profoundly simple way, combining science with mysticism, showing us to how bring spirit into matter, and giving us methods of testing the validity of the teachings for ourselves. This book's insights and practical wisdom will be an eye opener and provide support for anyone needing a nudge in the right direction. ~ Natasha Hoffman, natashahoffmanbooks.com

Peter Littlejohn Cook, Heaven on Earth facilitator, teacher of Tantra, Yoga and Advaita “Nothing in this book is new” says Peta Morton at the beginning of the book. She is a humble but wise guide, generously sharing the ancient wisdom without dogmas, and the modern wisdom without cliches, trusting you will find what you need. Peta masterfully weaves a thread of clarity to guide you out of the fragmented and labyrinthine world-view our culture has left us all with. Existential dis-ease has been the inevitable by-product of our cultural bias towards living in the head, instead of in presence. I hope you will read Peta's book, and let the words that have poured through her attune you to the embodied awareness of your own soul's eternal wisdom. ~ Peter Littlejohn Cook, www.tantramentoring.com
