Last Friday Kamalamani launched 'Other than Mother: Choosing Childlessness with Life in Mind' at 'The Station' in central Bristol.

The evening was a vibrant and colourful celebration of the book's publication, with a gathering of friends, family, and colleagues. Kamalamani told the story of the book from her realising at the age of 27 that it isn't compulsory to have children, having always warmly anticipated motherhood, to realising she wanted to write a book on the subject at the age of 31. 14 years later and that book is now being born.

She introduced the book's themes and explained how she imagined the front cover image of a woman holding the world as a mother holds, and gazes, at her new born child. The artist Paul Crummay beautifully captured the image in her mind's eye. A close friend then presented her with a giant, illuminated, hand-painted globe!
