otherthanmothergalleycafe6june2016On Monday 6 June - the day after World Environment Day - Kamalamani hosted an evening 'exploring childlessness' at the Galley Cafe in Bristol. Eleven people came to the event; one Mum, one man, and the rest women who were childless by choice, circumstance and happenstance. After brief introductions and Kamalamani's talk and introduction to her latest book Other than Mother: Choosing Childlessness with Life in Mind, there was an informal discussion. Themes ranged from meaning-making when one is without child, the varying degrees of pro-natal pressure people had experienced, through to discussion about the potency of Engwall and Peterson's notion of the 'silent body' for some participants. As always at these events, the uniqueness of peoples' stories was striking.

Kamalamani hopes to run another of these evenings in early September. Check her for more details: www.facebook.com/otherthanmother
