Soul Whisperer meme

The Soul Whisperer has come out top in its category in The Beverly Hills International Book Awards. And it’s not hard to see why. Described as being “reminiscent of a classic Indiana Jones adventure, with the requisite close shaves, Hollywood-style mysticism, and especially villainous villains,” The Soul Whisperer has been attracting rave reviews from both sides of the Atlantic.

The plot centres on Londoners Alex and Sara, who grab the chance of a free holiday to France, and discover all is not as it seems. Read on for an exclusive extract…

Alex and Sara were having aperitifs on the terrace, with just two things dominating their thoughts; the late night escapade at the ruined chateau and the exposure of the tunnel to the Wickys. For the night ahead, they had some small wind-up torches and dark clothing. Alex, having turned from ‘doubting Thomas’ to a strange hybrid of a special ops soldier and ‘Hercule Poirot’ had keenly accepted his new role, and even decided to ‘darken up’ using some greyish sticky clay he’d uncovered in the garden.

‘You look like a commando,’ Sara remarked with a nervous smile. Waiting for the rendezvous and the cover of night to come, they sat there trying to pass the time by playing cards, all kitted out and feeling rather surreal.

‘What time do you make it?’ Alex asked with a confident and deliberate tug on his ponytail for good measure.

‘Eleven ten,’ Sara replied tentatively.

‘Okay, let’s make a move,’ suggested Alex putting his handful of cards on the table and standing up, chest puffed out in a show of bravado. Leaving the TV and the lights on around the cottage to mimic someone actually being ‘home’, they pulled the shutters to and set off up the hill, where they were to meet at the old water tower as Jean-Michel had suggested.

‘Shhh…what’s that?’ Alex bobbed down putting his right arm out to indicate to Sara to do the same. They heard the crackle of debris as the ground seemed to be humming. A wild boar flashed at immense speed across the hillside just two metres in front of them. ‘Shiiittt,’ came the muffled cry from a startled Alex, adrenalin pumping and heart beating fast. A few seconds later, as if on cue, a tawny owl hooted its haunting melody like a forewarning. A light flashed once, twice then stopped, followed by the same again.
