The Snake and the Condor is more than a retelling of one of the great love stories of world literature. It also studies the cruel effects of colonization, forced conversion and economic exploitation on non-European civilizations. It evokes the fear, suspicion and uncertainty on which tyranny and dictatorship thrive.
Author Robert Southam graduated from Oxford, taught English literature at university for a time but felt too young for a secluded life, trained as an actor and has since worked for many of England's principal companies. He has also acted and directed for his own company, which tours plays all over Europe. Two of his short films have won international prizes.
Robert recently blogged for CI about his experiences in South America and the
inspiration behind a novel that has already wowed reviewers.
