P1150629It's the small mysteries in a writer's space that always intrigue me. What is that thing? what is it for? I peer at the blurry book covers, because while it's not advisable to judge a book by its cover, you can tell something about a person from what's on their shelves. Jon Mackley, author of The Gawain Legacy isn't giving much away... he says:

My desk - looking tidier than usual. I try to clear it before I start a new project. By the time I'm midway through, it becomes covered in towers of books. On the lefthand side is a copy paper box lid. I have four cats and was advised that if cats come and stand on your desk, they can't resist the box. It keeps them out of your way. Now all four cats come to see if they can sit in the box.

I also have an old microfiche reader as I recently completed work on an edition of a Gothic novel. It's not been published in over 200 years and a physical copy doesn't exist in the UK.

I prefer to write using a fountain pen - there is less distraction when handwriting and the computer's not turned on. My favourite pen is a gold-nibbed stylus that belonged to my grandfather, hence the bottle of ink to dip it in.
