MidnightMeandersMidnight Meanders is a young adult fiction novel about mental illness and faith in teenagers.

What inspired you?

The lack of awareness of mental illnesses and the problems they cause, particularly in younger people. I've experienced them in myself and in other people, and I've seen impacts ranging from cutting to eating disorders to suicide. Being exposed to this every day, along with the nuances of adolescent life, I found it hard to be apathetic.

What genre is it?
Young adult fiction.

Why is it different?
The most unique aspect of this book is that it was written by a teenager. There was direct insight and observation that went into the story. There is a degree of raw authenticity that comes from experience.

Who are your favorite authors?
I love Ernest Hemingway, Kurt Vonnegut, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Markus Zusak.

How do you find time to write?
This was pretty challenging, considering I was in high school when I wrote this. A lot of it was done at night. Whenever I had any free time, or a day off, I was writing. I knew that I had to get something down on paper every day.

Future of writing and publishing?
I'll always keep writing. I'd like to pursue a career in writing or publishing, although I'm not quite sure where I'll go at this point; I've considered journalism, editing, screenwriting, a bunch of things. I'm going into my first year of college this August, where plan on majoring in English with a writing concentration and double minoring in writing and history. I'm currently working on a second novel.
